We are about five weeks out from the NBA’s July 30 return date at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, which looks even more likely to take place now that the league and player’s association have finalized terms on the revised CBA, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski:
As expected, NBA and NBPA have finalized terms of the revised CBA for the Orlando restart, sources tell ESPN. All items in Saturday’s league memo to teams are agreed upon. Transaction window starts at noon.
While the majority of players look to be ready to head to the bubble environment in Florida, it does seem as though some will opt out of participating. Washington’s Davis Bertans and Portland’s Trevor Ariza are two players who have already informed their teams they will not be making the trip. Tomorrow is the deadline for players to let their teams know. There have not been any rumors or inklings that any member of the Sixers will not participate.
Woj also indicated a couple revised terms to the finalized agreement.
One change for use to replacement players in Orlando, per league memo to teams: Replacing a player with Covid-19 must occur no later than 7 days following confirmed positive player resumes training.
NBA and NBPA have agreed to put into place an enhanced insurance plan for players in Orlando that would cover career-ending injuries related to Covid-19 or conventional basketball injuries, sources tell ESPN. Potential group policy would cover players for several million dollars.
Remember that eligible replacement players must have been on an NBA or G League contract either of the last two seasons, and not have been on an overseas contract. For example, Sixers fans do not have to worry about another potential playoff series involving Greg Monroe, as he was playing professionally in Germany, rendering him ineligible. Joakim Noah and Corey Brewer are two players that have already signed with teams (the Clippers and Kings, respectively).
It’s great to see these two sides come together and check another box toward bringing basketball back into our lives. Fans cannot wait for the conclusion of a season unlike any other.
